Journalist & Podcast Professional

Germany made me. San Francisco shaped me. Since 2017, I've stalked Silicon Valley's tech titans, decoded startup dramas, and translated California's chaos for European audiences. My beat? Everything from AI breakthroughs to human breakdowns. As European broadcasters' eyes and ears in the Valley, I dish out stories that make Munich businessmen spill their beer and Berlin techies question their life choices. Now, through my freshly minted Schuler Media LLC, I'm cooking up videos and podcasts that capture the Bay Area's digital circus in all its glory.

About

I blame my hometown of Esslingen, Germany, for sparking my unstoppable urge to tell stories. That urge catapulted me from Europe straight into Silicon Valley's circus tent. Now I call San Francisco home, fog and all.As ARD's West Coast correspondent (2017-2023), I chased stories through San Francisco's microclimates and Silicon Valley's server farms. Tech moguls, political showdowns, California quirks – I packaged it all for my European audience. My journalism career started in uniform. As a second lieutenant in German Armed Forces Radio, I made military news sound almost exciting. Then New York's Aufbau newspaper handed me a notebook to chronicle German-Jewish emigrant stories. The BBC World Service in London taught me proper tea-drinking etiquette. Well, they tried. While studying political science in Bonn, I caffeinated Germany's early birds as morning host at "cult" radio station SWF3. ARD liked my sleep-deprived humor enough to hand me their Kurt Magnus Award for emerging talent.Next up: I launched DASDING, Germany's first tri-media youth program at SWR. It snagged a Grimme Online Award. Not bad for a digital rookie. At Munich's BR (Bayerischer Rundfunk), I pushed a 4,000-strong broadcaster into the digital age as consultant and CEO's assistant. In 2015, I built their software development department from scratch. Mixing journalists with developers? Either brilliance or chaos would emerge. We got lucky. Now I bounce between US and European media outlets from my San Francisco perch, hunting stories where silicon meets soul. I publish two daily newsletters: filtr.de feeds Germans their AI insights, while implicator.ai serves the English-speaking crowd their algorithmic breakfast. Both land in inboxes Monday through Friday, because even AI needs weekends off.
